DJ, juggler, fashion model, basketball enthusiast, podcaster, and campus supervisor Miguel Browne has joined Ripples for his first year as advisor. A man of many hats, Browne was interested in adding Ripples to his list of hobbies and odd jobs.
“I knew that there was an opening and I always want to see how [Ripples] worked and be a part of the grind that you guys have because I really admire that,” Browne said. “I feel like it’s an underrepresented gem here and I feel like I wanted to be a part of it to help spread the word of all the good work you guys are doing.”
Browne, who graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in communications, initially came to Shorewood to coach boys basketball.
“[Basketball] is what introduced me to Shorewood, and then when I was here, I found out that the student base and the energy was really fitting to me,” Browne said. “So then I slipped into a cross-categorical aid job, which then turned into the campus supervisor.”
Browne says that he was surprised to see how Ripples operates.
“When I first applied for the job, I thought ‘oh, I’m going to have to do a lot of leg work — I’m going to have to do a good portion leading you guys,’” Browne said. “[Ripples] is self-taught, self-trained, and I think I’m just really excited to see how you guys navigate making the paper happen every week. I think everyone sees it and no one knows the work that goes into it.”
Browne hopes to help Ripples expand its reader-base and to provide support wherever possible.
“[My goal for Ripples] is just to help you grow it and make sure that you have more and more people year to year to help you guys make as many publications as you can,” Browne said. “I think I was genuinely shocked that you guys put out something that looks so professional and so current and well-written every month on top of doing school.”
Along with his other hobbies, Browne also embarked on a modeling adventure this fall at the Milwaukee Fashion Show.
“My girlfriend had walked for the previous three years, and they had an open audition at Bayshore,” Browne said. “And then I walked, did a little hair flip at the end of the runway, then walked back, just had a fun time. I ended up getting chosen. I’m walking for a former performer classmate of mine and another brand.”
