Student apprehended for creating “hit list,” possession of ammunition

A Shorewood High School student was arrested after another student reported a “hit list” to the school administration at 10:00 am. The list was confirmed to be real and the suspected author was in possession of a loaded magazine of ammunition. The district notified parents through Infinite Campus around 3:30 pm and released the following statement:

“On Tuesday, November 12th at approximately 10:00 AM a student reported that they believed another SHS student had created a “hit list.”  Following established procedures, our staff immediately began investigating the report and involved the Shorewood Police Department, who joined the investigation. Through this, we discovered that a student had indeed created a “hit list” and the author of the list was found to be in possession of a loaded magazine of ammunition. There was no gun in the student’s possession or found in any location on campus.

The student was taken into police custody, and Shorewood High School has issued significant consequences to the student to assure the safety of all our students. Our cooperation with the Shorewood Police Department in this investigation is ongoing.

The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority and the Shorewood School District has taken this situation very seriously.  We applaud the student who reported the concern, and we encourage any student with safety concerns to always talk to a trusted adult or, to remain anonymous, utilize the StopIt app.”

The identity of the suspect has not been released.
